ARTIST STATEMENT
Robert Arthur Van Winkle was born in Tulare, CA in 1988. He grew up in a rural environment surrounded by luscious fields, verdant meadows, and bursting orchards. His experiences there helped to inform much of his Art.
“Every piece I create is done with the intention of captivating you for a brief, electrifying moment. Whether that is accomplished via the use of expressive lines, bold colors, or even texture, is typically informed by the world around me. I feel it is important as an artist to convey a message through my work. Pieces like The Flame Deluge and Drought are direct responses to the effects of Climate Change and are intended to have a resounding effect on the viewer’s conscience. Other works, such as Row and Jokerman, don’t have such obvious interpretations. Their title’s do provide some clues as to their meaning, however.”
Robert also believes in the power of pure abstraction. He has created numerous works Influenced by artists such as Jackson Pollock, Joan Mitchell, and Hellen Frankenthaler, Titans of the avant-garde. While continuing to explore his own artistic vision, he has found a love for painting that drives him to excellence. Robert persists in pushing his boundaries while pursuing a bachelor’s degree at California State University – Fresno.
